Diane Lane takes a road trip across France in Paris Can Wait. Directed by Eleanor Coppola (wife of Francis Ford Coppola), the film features Alec Baldwin as Lane's inattentive movie-producer husband, who gets called away on a business trip to Budapest while the couple are in Cannes. Lane in turn embarks on a drive across the French countryside en route to Paris.
Along with Paris and Cannes, the movie takes us to Aix-en-Provence, a university town in southern France with tree-shaded boulevards and picturesque squares that are flanked by centuries-old mansions. We also visit Lauris, a cliffside village with soaring views of the Durance Valley, as well as the mountains of Alpilles and Luberon. Next stop, Cadenet. The Provencal town is set against Instagram-perfect red cliffs. The movie opens in the U.S. in early May, and rolls out globally until early July.
Gal Gadot stars as the title super hero from the pages of DC Comics. To recreate her fictional home of Themyscira, filmmakers went to southern Italy. We spend some time in Apulia, the region that forms the heel of Italy's famed boot. There, you'll find ancient farmlands and long stretches of scenic Mediterranean coast. We also go to neighboring Campania, an area colonized by ancient Greeks along the Tyrrhenian Sea. It's home to famous sites like Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius. Chris Pine, Robin Wright and Connie Nielsen co-star in the action flick that also takes us to Paris, London and Bourne Wood. The woodland area in Surrey, England has been used in a lot of films, recently appearing in Thor: The Dark World (2013) and Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015). Wonder Woman opens around the world on the first weekend of June.
Set in the title German capital, Berlin Syndrome stars Teresa Palmer (Hacksaw Ridge) as an Australian tourist who has an ill-fated date with Max Riemelt (TV's Sense8). She wakes up in an apartment that she can't leave. The movie takes us to the Oranienstraße, a lively street filled with restaurants, boutiques and cafés. There, we also visit the Heinrichplatz, a spot filled with bars that was home to the city's punk-rock scene in the 70s. The movie takes us to the grand Berlin Cathedral, as well as the Pariser Platz, one of the city's main squares. There's also a stop at Kottbusser Tor, the well-known U-Bahn station, surrounded by lively nightlife and multicultural offerings. The film opens in the U.S. and Germany in late-May, and early June in the U.K.
Rachel Weisz took a trip to Italy for My Cousin Rachel. Based on the classic novel Rebecca, the drama stars Weisz as a widow who seduces a young nobleman that suspects her of murder. Sam Claflin (The Hunger Games film franchise) and Iain Glen (Game of Thrones) co-star. The landscape is as dramatic as the plot with filming in Arezzo, Italy. The hilltop locale in southeastern Tuscany is surrounded by the lush valleys of Tiberina, Casentino, Valdarno and Valdichiana. The movie opens in early June in the U.S., rolling out until mid-August in Europe.
Set at the end of the Cold War, Atomic Blonde sends Charlize Theron on a mission that visits London, Budapest and Berlin. The movie stars Theron as an MI6 agent out to stop Russian agents in 1989 Berlin, as well as avenge the murder of a fellow agent. James McAvoy, John Goodman and Toby Jones co-star. One of the film's most-striking fight scenes was shot in an East Berlin apartment building. In Budapest, Hungary, streets were lined with classic cars - the Skodas, Wartburgs and Trabants that were common in the 80s. With a title that tells the story, The Hitman's Bodyguard stars Ryan Reynolds as a bodyguard who is protecting hit man Samuel L. Jackson. The two have 24 hours to get from England to The Hague in order to testify at the trial of a dictator, played by Gary Oldman. Salma Hayek co-stars.
The adventure takes them from London to Amsterdam, where Jackson has a high-speed boat ride in the city's famed canals. Then its on to The Hauge, the coastal city in the western Netherlands with Gothic architecture. Filming also took place in Sofia, Bulgaria. Though the capital city has a thoroughly modern vibe, it still retains Ottoman influences with ancient mosques and domed churches. The movie opens across the globe in mid-August.
Tom Holland, the latest actor to don Spandex in Spider-Man: Homecoming, journeys across the west coast of Ireland in Pilgrimage. The drama stars Holland as a 13th-century monk who is part of a mission to bring a sacred relic to Rome. Richard Armitage (The Hobbit film franchise) and Jon Bernthal (TV's The Walking Dead) co-star in the film that features the dramatic landscape of the Emerald Isle. Filming also took place in Ardennes, Belgium. The region is dotted by quaint villages, rolling hills and rushing rivers. You'll also find ancient forts, castles and citadels. The movie opens in the U.S. in early August.
